It's a sunny warm day in 1938 on the Gila Pacific RR and shay #4 pulls into Gila with a string of empty log cars from the sawmill at Timberline. The cars are destined for the new stand of tall timber in the rich wilderness of Ponderosa. Shay #4 will pull forward beyond the east turnout and then back the log cars onto the station siding. The Gila yard crew will take over from there.
Seen in the distant beyond the train is the town of Gila with its old western style false front buildings of a bygone era. The gas station and the freight house are scratchbuilt from basswood and cardstock with plastic commercial windows and doors. The red structure is a Campbell Scale Models fire house and the brick building is a Classic Minatures Wells Fargo & Company Office. The other two buildings are the Suydam Old Town Business Block, Gazette building and barber shop and the Dentist office upstairs.
The locomotive is a brass United PFM Hillcrest RR 25-ton shay. The log car is a Kadee skeleton log car kit. This scene was taken on the HO scale railroad model layout of Ron Tarjany, MMR#55. |
